What next?
It'sexplicitly stag,too
By Peter Bellamy, Entertainment Editor
During one of my rarely granted interviews the other day, I was asked by Ruth Fischer, editor of the Play House program, if I thought the legitimate theater had any future.
Perhaps with a soupcon of wishful thinking I replied that I thought it jolly well did, and gave some reasons for so thinking.
Any doubts that I might have had about the future of the legitimate theater were dispelled several hours later when I read an interview in the Hollywood Reporter, a film trade publication, with one Judy Brown, who is described as an actress. The reader may judge for himself.
Miss Brown is said to be the first American actress to star in a Scandinavian sex film. It is titled "Threesome.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, this 25year-old woman is no shrinking violet when it comes to discussing her film role, which she is convinced will make her an overnight star.
In the film, the Hollywood Reporter states. Miss Brown makes love not only to her husband, but to a Danish model who arouses her latent lesbianism, and to a male who seeks to stimulate her by showing a stag film in his apartment. In addition, there is a nightmare scene in which "All the people in my life up to date are tearing my clothes off."
The fadeout has Miss Brown, pregnant, deserting her husband to live with the lesbian she has come to love.
The Hollywood Reporter quotes Miss Brown as saying:
Judy Brown-she may look sweet, simple and girlish. but brother-err!!!
"This film is totally explicit physically, totally. It is totally honest, totally real. In the film when we take ́a shower, we take a shower with our clothes off—as we do in life. I think more people want honesty and realism and truth in their films.
"I call the woman I portray a sexual female. There's a difference between sexy and sexual. Sexual is from the inside and within. Sexy to me is like a Playboy layout. It's contrived and it's just a body.
"In most Hollywood films, the female is used as a tool for the male. The male grabs her and she submits: Right? In this the female is just as bold as the male. She experiments like a male does. The female sexuality is endless, whereas the male sexuality is not.
"This explores the psyche of the female sexuality. It wouldn't be as interesting to explore the male sexuality. It wouldn't go as far. I think that this will bring about a whole new female image by opening up great emotional roles for American actresses who feel the same as I do.
"There's no point in waiting for Europeans to come over here with their 'I, A Woman.' 'Carmen. Baby,' 'Camille 2000, and I Am Curious. Yellow.' to clean up and make a fortune. Why shouldn't our major do these kinds of films?"
Miss Brown is the wife of former Dallas Cowboy tackle Jerry Coumpler. She told the Hollywood Reporter she appeared in "Threesome." with his blessings, although he was "apprehensive” at first.
Coumpler needn't have worried. It's so obvious that when Miss Brown was making explicit love with two other men and a female that she was only thinking of him.
Just shows what a college education will do for a girl. Ask me again if I think there is any future in the legitimate theater.
